The Preston Guardian for Saturday, July 26th, 1856 contained the following short notice: Manslaughter - Joseph Chivers, a miner, was tried at Stafford on Monday and found guilty of the manslaughter of David Taylor, at King's Winford. The case being of a very aggravated character the prisoner was sentenced to fifteen years transportation.
