Convict Notes

Possible family connections for Jane (Christie) are: CHRISTIE Jane (Christie/Christy) was born about 1747. She was tried for stealing linen at Antrim co. Ireland in March 1790, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 8 1793 after a voyage of 6months on BODDINGTONS. She had a relationship, perhaps her first, with John (Summers) & produced a child.>>> [Some details taken from this Website]] John (Summers) was born about 1754. He arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 12 1788 after a voyage of 12months on First Fleet ship ALEXANDER. He died as emancipist on age66 at Windsor & was buried at St Matthews CofE Windsor. [Some details taken from this Website-added by me] .. >>>Jane (Christie) apparantly had a second (2of3) relationship with William (Aspinall).>>> William (Aspinall) was born about 1752 probably in Blackburn Lancashire & became a weaver. He was tried at Lancaster Assizes Lancashire, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 7months on Fleet ships NEPTUNE SCARBOROUGH or SURPTISE. She is recorded in 1825 as wife of Thomas (Hosketh her second? relationship) at Windsor. She died on 1 7 1827 age about80 (Smees records show age87) as emancipist from BODDINGTONS mother of maybe 2children & was buried, as (Hesketh) at St Matthews CofE Windsor. Robert (Hesketh) is recorded in Sydney in 1821. Although this Website shows authoritively that she had a relationship with Thomas (Hesketh), Smees records show her with Robert (Hesketh); & her child born in 1821 would have been when she was about 73years. The confusion here arises from proper identification of Jane (Christie)s arrival & because Smees record for Jane (Christie)s death shows her as named Jane (Hesketh) wife of Robert & as arrived on BODDINGTONS 1793. Also difficulty in identification of RobertThomas (Hesketh) ++ [Noted a Robert (Hesketh/Holcroft) was born about 1782/95. He was tried for stealing leather at Latham (or Altham) Lancashire at Liverpool Lancaster Quarter Sessions in November 1819, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 8 1820 after a voyage of 4months on MANGLES. [Some details taken from this Website; & Smees records identify this person as the husband of Jane (Christie).] [Noted also, Smees records identify a Jane (Christie), defacto of Robert (Hesketh), as born about 1792 & arriving in NSW as a convict in 1821 on MORLEY.] [This Jane (Christie) does not have an entry on this Website as yet, nor does the ship MORLEY arrive in Australia in 1821.] [Jane (Christie) & Robert (Hesketh) produced 1child: ]HARD TO BELIEVE SHE HAD CHILD IF AGE80 [1.George (Hesketh) was born on 24 6 1821 at Annandale & baptised on 29 7 1821 at St Phillips CofE Sydney.] [Noted a Jane (Hesketh) was tried for possesing a forged note at Chester Session of Pleas Cheshire, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 9 1820 after a voyage of 4.5months on MORLEY. SHE IS MORE LIKELY TO BE THE WIFE OF ROBERT (HESKETH) [Some details taken from this Website] ++ Reference: Craig James Smee 'Births and Baptisms Marriages and Defacto Relationships Deaths and Burials New South Wales 1788-1830' ..a complete listing from church & other records in the early colony.
