John Clapshaw went on trial,at the Wilts Assizes, with others, for theft. John Clapshaw, Walter Flin, Isaac Baverstock, John Lee and Wm. Cruger, for stealing from John Baptiste Periam, a French Louis d’Or;.. Salisbury Journal, 7 July 1788. On Tuesday last ended our assizes, ... and John Clapshaw, for stealing from John Baptiste Perian, a French Louis d’Or; and...were sentenced to be transported for seven years. Walter Flin, Isaac Baverstock and John Lee, for being concerned in the robbery of John Perian, above mentioned, were ordered to be imprisoned one year; Wm. Cruger, for the same, was acquitted.
