1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 24, single and a butcher and groom. He was assigned to Mr Farrell, Elizabeth Street, Hobart (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON27-1-5$init=CON27-1-5). 1837: He was a Constable by this time but on 20 June he was dismissed for "insubordination" and received 50 lashes as well. 1840, 3 September: Thomas Clay received a Ticket of Leave. 1843, 20 September: His Conditional Pardon was approved (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p155).

1831, 19 December: Convicted at Kingston-upon-Thames Special Sessions for burglary. 1832, 18 January: Sent from Surrey Jail and received aboard the prison hulk Justitia, at Woolwich, where he was listed as 23 years old (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1832, 10 February: Sent from the hulk for transportation.
