Convict Notes




Passing forged bank notes on the bank of rawdon-briggs of halifax york. Joseph became a fellmonger, quarry owner,shop-owner and land-owner and was one of the original settlers of Perth, Tas. He was also extremely entrepreneurial and financed a number of ventures into business by family and people he knew, one of whom being Michael Lyons, father of Joseph Lyons, P.M. at Stanley, Tas. Joseph married Mary Grey/Gray of the Providence in Hobart on 11 March 1822, only 2 months after she arrived in the colony. Joseph and Mary had 8 children and both lived long lives dying at Perth, Tas at 92 and 85 years respectively. Many of the family are buried at the Perth St Andrews Cemetery with them.
