Mary Walker, aged 59, Catherine Clements, aged 26, Betty Andrew, aged ?6, charged with privately stealing on the 17th instant from a shop in Stockport, 28 yards of printed calico—said Mary Walker, stands further charged with stealing on the same day at Stockport, two pairs of men's shoes from James Berwick, and one pair of women's shoes from John Leigh, Chester Chronicle, 31 March 1809. --------------------------------------------------------------- A few days ago, Catherine Clements, a transport, was sent from the Chester County Gaol, to Woolwich, and put on board the transport ship Canada, now under orders for New South Wales—She was one of the three women capitally convicted at the Spring Assizes, 1809 for privately stealing in the shop of Joseph Wood, Stockport (in the day time a quantity of printed cotton, along with Betty Andrew, and the well known Mary Walker, aged 59, a notorious and very old offender, who still remains in the said Castle under sentence of transportation for life—Betty Andrew, from several favourable circumstances represented to the Chief Justices, obtained a free pardon, and was on the ? of January, released from custody.—-This young woman was led astray by her aunt, Mary Walker aforesaid, and had lived nine years previous the robbery, in a creditable service in Manchester, to which she was permitted by her master to return.
