CONVICTED OF FELONIES James Cliffe, for robbing a bleaching ground at Fazeley, to be transported 14 years; ... Staffordshire Advertiser, 8 Aug 1812.  The following sixteen convicts under sentence of have been this week sent from our county gaol to the hulks, Langston harbour, near Portsmouth, viz. John Harrison, William Moorwood, William Henry  Chesters, Thomas Snelson, Sylvester Hull, Samuel Hickman, Benjamin Walters, James Johnson, Job Jones, John Wi d, James Cliffe, George Scott, John Yates the elder, John Kenrick and William Crump. Staffordshire Advertiser, 29 Aug 1812. Hulk Records. HO-9-8_2 (Page 14/51) Portsmouth hulks, Leviathan, Captivity and Portland. Received ten prisoners from Stafford, 28 Aug 1812. On list of convicts disembarked from "Earl Spencer" and forwarded to Revd Samuel Marsden at Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6002; 4/3491 p.561) 1817 Dec 30: Petition for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3175; 4/1850 p.80) 1818: On list of convicts maintained by William Cox free of expense to the Crown in 1818 (Fiche 3062; 4/1834B No.73 p.443) 31/1/1818: CP - given an Absolute Pardon.
