William Clifton and Thomas Clifton, brothers, were charged with feloniously killing sheep in a close at Grendon, and with having feloniously killed and carried away the said sheep or part thereof, the property Richard Maxey. It was proved in evidence that part of the sheep being found in the field covered with straw the morning after the robbery, the prosecutor appointed a person to watch it, when one the prisoners was taken in the act of uncovering the meat, and the other made his escape but was afterwards taken. Verdict, Guilty. Death. Reprieved. Northampton Mercury, 6 Mar 1824.
