ANTRIM ASSIZES. The following sentences were passed on prisoners convicted at these assizes :— … To be transported for seven years— … Mary Cloakey, stealing a silver watch- ... Belfast News-Letter, 12 Aug 1817. Mary Cloakey, for stealing on 17th June last, a silver watch, from James Greig; and Wm. Rutledge, tor receiving the same knowing it to be stolen. James Greig—Lost his watch ; had been seeing two friends embark for America, and was a little tipsey ; when going home, met with prisoner, and soon after missed his watch, Richard Hardy, police constable—Produces the watch ; went to Mary Cloakey, when a pound note was promised if the watch was returned ; Rutledge went out and soon after brought the watch; they were then taken up. Prisoner said Greig gave the watch as a deposit, until the next morning. Cloakey, Guilty—To be transported, Rutledge, Not Guilty. Belfast News-Letter, 5 Aug 1817.
