SHIP NEWS.—On Wednesday arrived the Catherine transport, Capt. Simmonds, with 97 female prisoners from Ireland; which she received at Cork, and afterwards went to Falmouth for convoy, whence she sailed for this Colony the 8th of last December. Yesterday arrived the Three Bees transport, Capt. Wallace, with 209 male prisoners, also from Ireland, but last from England having sailed in the same convoy with the Catherine, under protection of the Niger and Tagus frigates; which captured, off the Cape de Verde, the Ceres French frigate, rated 36, but carrying 46 guns, after an action of 15 minutes in which the Tagus only was engaged. Family connections for John (Clynch) may be: CLIYNCH ??? (Lynch/Cli/ynch) may have produced 2children: 1.Christopher (Lynch) was born about 1786 & became a farmer. He was tried at Kildare Ireland in 1812, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 6 5 1814 after a voyage of 5months on THREE BEES; he was Catholic. In 1821 he was a servant to John (Oxley). He was issued a Certificate (of Freedom?) in January 1824. He was appointed as constable at Upper Minto on 8 12 1824 & gave vidence at the inquest of Francis (Blong) on 14 12 1825. He was recorded in 1828 Free by Servitude Constable at Eldenstie Upper Minto. He was tried at Dublin city, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 6 5 1814 after a voyage of 5months on THREE BEES. He was an emancipist when he married Mary (King/Duffey age15 her first marriage) on 14 2 1820 at St Lukes CofE Liverpool. He is recorded in October 1824 as working in the District of Appin. He died on 22 3 1826 age35. He was recorded posthumously in 1826 as a settler. ..[Some details taken from this Website] ..Mary (King/Duffey) was born in 1805. She arrived at Port Jackson NSW as a child with Charlotte (King) convict after 6 12 1812 after a voyage of 6months on MINSTREL accompanying INDEFATIGIBLE. She married secondly Laurence (Darcy-shown in Smees records as Davey) of Appin on 12 7 1827 at St Marys RC Sydney. In 1828 she was recorded as Catholic at Appin with her family. AND on this Website an Eleanor (King) convict from MINSTREL in 1812 is the person who marries, sometime before 1821, James (Jordan) convict from FRIENDSHIP & lived on his farm in Appin. Another Mary (King) convict from MINSTREL has no clues. Native of Kildare, Ireland. From the "Colonial Secretary Index, 1788-1825", on 18 Oct 1824 he was noted as being a convict assigned to work for someone in the District of Appin (Reel 6028; 2/8283 p.69). Some of his descendants have retained a connection with the town of Appin, NSW, the most recently known family burial occuring there in 1998.
