Thomas Coates, 17, charged with stealing a yearling sheep, the property of Thomas Lax  Yorkshire Gazette, 20 March 1824. Yorkshire Lent Assizes. THOMAS COATES was convicted of sheep-stealing, the Jury recommended him to mercy in account of his youth and a previous good character  and his Lordship directed judgment of death to be recorded against him. Leeds Mercury, 27 March 1824.

Folios 15-16: Thomas Coates, aged 18, convict: disease or hurt, languor, lassitude and debility with anorexia, nausea, headache and pain of back and limbs with alternate chills and flushings followed by profuse perspiration. Put on sick list, 1 September 1824 at sea. Discharged 18 September 1824.

ADM 101/54/51824 Medical and surgical journal of the Minerva convict ship from 21 June to 20 November 1824 by Alexander Nisbet, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a voyage to New South Wales. Folio 1: Thomas Coates, aged 18, convict: disease or hurt, anorexia with languor and lassitude. Put on sick list, 7 July 1824 at Sheerness. Discharged 14 July 1824.
