William COCHRAN was convicted at the Middlesex Gaol Delivery, London on 14 Jan 1830 for stealing a pr of trousers. Previous conviction and had spent 6 weeks in a House of Correction. Life Sentence. Hulk Report: "orderly". Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'David Lyon' arriving there Aug 1830. Recorded as a married man, but then as single. Native place of birth: Wapping, London. Aged 24 yrs, a brickmaker. Colony of VDL: Assigned to duties. 23 Aug 1838 - Ticket of Leave granted. Conditional Pardon approved. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 31 Jan 1844 - William COCHRANE per "David Lyon" to Ellen SCOTT per "Eliza". MARRIAGE: 11 March 1844 - William COCHRANE, aged 35 yrs, free to Ellen SCOTT aged 28 yrs, prisoner, at St. John's Parish Church of England, Launceston, VDL. (ref. 37/1/3 no. 766)
