1846, 14 May: Thomas Cochrane, a tailor, married May McLeod at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Hobart (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-5p144j2k). Witnesses to the ceremony were Michael and Janet McCabe. Michael McCabe, along with Edward Cochrane (Thomas's brother), was also transported to VDL in 1833 aboard the Isabella.

1839, 18 April: He was granted a Ticket of Leave (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p239). 1841, 23 March: Thomas Cochrane received his Free Certificate No.229 at Hamilton (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p239). 1841: Muster - free by servitude (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849).


1833: On arrival in VDL, prisoner #1640, he was assigned to Mr Hilliard (Hillyard) (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849). 1834: Muster - assigned to Mr Hilliard. 1835: Muster - as above.


1833: Title Precognition against Thomas Cochrane for the crime of theft, habit and repute, and previous conviction Accused: Thomas Cochrane, son of John Cochrane, mason, Age: 14, tailor, Address: Middle Meal Market Stairs, Cowgate, Edinburgh, with father (see National Records of Scotland; Reference AD14/33/516). --0-- 1833, 28 January: Trial papers relating to Thomas Cochrane for the crime of theft, habit and repute, and previous conviction. Tried at High Court, Edinburgh Accused: Thomas Cochrane, son of John Cochrane, mason, Verdict: Guilty, Sentence: Transportation - 7 years Previous convictions: theft (see National Records of Scotland; Reference JC26/1833/537). --00-- 1833, 1 April: Thomas Cochrane, 16, was received aboard the Justitia hulk at Woolwich. He was sent from there on 11 June for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
