Arrived 29 Dec 1844. 421. James Cockcroft, Tried Allahabad Ct. Martial,2 July 44, 14 years. Transported for Habitual Drunkeness and violent conduct. Stated this offence: Knocking down Sergt. & striking the acting Sergt. Major, and being drunk on guard. 3rd Buffs ?? striking a serg, 4 months, Drunk, 40 days. 3rd Buffs 3 years, single. Native of Yorkshire, age 24, trade labourer. Many incidents recorded. Health and Welfare Records – James Cockcroft was discharged from New Town Invalid Depot to go Hop-picking on 2 Mar 1880. He was admitted there from Hobart district, 30 June 1879. James Cockcroft death, age 72, burial at Cornelian Bay Cemetery, 6 Feb 1883, pauper section. Cause of death, brain disease.
