The 'Brampton' ship was built in 1817 at King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. Originally used by the East India Company and then whaling before being a convict transport ship. Many of the Irish convicts on this ship were convicted under the Insurrection Act, for White Boy offences. 24 April 1823, the Sydney Gazette reported: On Tuesday last arrived from Ireland, with 183 male convicts, the ship Brampton, Captain Moore. She left London the 28th of July last; sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 8th of November; and last from the Cape of Good Hope, the 20th of February, from whence she brings eleven convicts.—Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Price, R. John COFFEE was convicted at Tipperary, Ireland. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to New South Wales, Australia per the ship 'Brampton' 1822/23. Aged 22yrs, a reaper. A Thomas Coffee was also transported on this voyage of the Brampton.
