Mary was born in 1811 in Cobh, Cork, Ireland and the spelling of her name was likely Carey rather than Kerry.




Mary was freed to her husband Michael Long by marriage (1837). Their son James was baptised at Illawarra by James Rigney 1841 where the family was living in a house owned by Col. Henry William Breton (see Elizabeth Maria Blaxland). Mary was returned to the factory in 1843 having left Michael. She received a certificate of freedom in 1848.
