The following are to be tried at Dorchester assizes, which begin Thursday next, viz … George Coles, for stealing black mare out the stable of John Frampton, at Holt, near Wimborne ; Salisbury Journal, 7 July 1788. At Dorchester, only one prisoner was capitally convicted, viz. George Coles, for stealing a black mare out of the stable of John Frampton, was afterwards reprieved, and ordered be transported for life. Salisbury Journal, 21 July 1788

Digitised Indent for ship Atlantic. George Coles, Dead. Tried at Dorchester , Dorset, 10 July 1788, Life. George’s name has an X through it, and the word Dead. He would have been one of the 18 convicts who died on the journey, out of the 220 men who were embarked on the Atlantic. ----------------------------------------------------------- The following are to be tried at Dorchester assizes, which begin Thursday next, viz. ...
