John COLLARD, aged 13yrs, was convicted at the Central Criminal Court, London on 1 March 1841 for stealing a handkerchief from a shop and previously having stolen a bottle of oil. 7yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "orderly". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Lord Goderich' ship arriving 18 Nov 1841. Ship Surgeon's Report: "disorderly". Single man; aged 14yrs; painter & glazier; 4'10 3/4"; Protestant; can read & write; fresh complexion, slightly freckled; dk brown hair; dk Hazel eyes. Native Place of residence - Wakefield (?Yorkshire) Father: Peter (family details as recorded on Indent, VDL) Mother: Mary Brother: Charles Sisters: Isabella & Susan Upon arrival in the Colony he was sent to Point Puer, a youth offenders reformatory prison, near Port Arthur penal settlement. Several records of misconduct and punishment. Free Certificate, at expiration of sentence, 20 March 1848.
