Friday, January 8 John Collins' existing sentence of transportation was extended one year and returned to his gang, for absconding.




Date of birth is approximate - convict register states age 23 yrs in 1833. Records of 1. Physical appearance (Age 23; 5' 31/2" tall; Reddish brown hair and red whiskers; grey eyes; many tattoos etc) 2. Conduct after arrival in Tasmania (very long charge sheet beginning 1 week after arrival amd continuing right through until at least May 1840) and 3. Application to be given permission to marry in March 1846 (another convict Helena Towe) available online at Archives Office of Tasmania. He was pardoned 1849-1850 after serving 16yrs and 9mo - much of this in chains carrying out hard labour as punishment for misconduct whilst at the colony.
