William Collins had first been committed to New Prison when taken. * He was tried on 22nd July 1796 before Judge Lawrence at the Old Bailey and sentenced to Death for “stealing in the dwelling of Jane Rowe, Spinster”. * He was “Pardoned on 3rd August 1796 to be transported for Life”. * “Delivered on board the Hulks at Woolwich in pursuance f the Secretary of State’s order dated 14 Nov 1796.” * Description 5ft 4inches, aged 18, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, Church[?] Taunton, Devon (i.e. native place), Butcher.
