The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Family connections for Thomas (Colls) are: COLLS Thomas (Colls) was tried at probably Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years, held at London Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 1 1816 after a voyage of 5months on OCEAN. He had a relationship with Sarah (Burgess her third relationship). He was Free by Servitude by 1825. [Some details taken from this Website] Sarah (Burgess) was born on 18 4 1797 & baptised on 23 7 1797 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She married firstly (1of3) at age15 Richard (Perkins) farmer on 24 12 1812 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & produced 4children. She had a second (2of3) relationship with Thomas (Rose) before 1828. Her 4children by (Perkins) are recorded in 1828 as living with Thomas (Rose) at Appin. She produced 5known children in her lifetime. Details of Sarah (Burgess)s family are given in entry for John (Burgess ROYAL ADMIRAL 1792) on this Website. Thomas (Colls) & Sarah (Burgess) produced 2children: 1.Thomas George (Colls) was born on 1 10 1825 & baptised on 1 1 1826 at St Lukes CofE Liverpool. He died on 29 11 1826 age13m & was buried at St Lukes CofE Liverpool (mother shown as Sarah (Perkins). 2.John (Colls) was born on 15 12 1827 & baptised on 30 9 1827 at St Lukes CofE Liverpool.
