In July 1851 at the High Court of Justiciary, Irishmen James Connelly aged 24 years and Hugh Galvin aged 23 years, along with two other accused were charged - on 10/11 May 1851 with the culpable homicide of Alexander Loughton in Leith by knocking him down, punching him and kicking him on the head. Only Connelly and Galvin were convicted and each received transportation for life - see Scotsman newspaper 26 July 1851 p3 on 'High Court of Justiciary' and Convict Records for Hugh Galvin.
