The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Correction: He appears to have returned to England following his brief stay in NSW, as he was tried at Devon and re-transported in 1827 (Not Australia)

Theodore CONSTANTINE was convicted at the Old Bailey, CCC, London on 23 Oct 1822 for stealing a watch, chain and rings from a dwelling house. He said in his defence that he had bought it from a young Frenchman he had met in Leicester Square. Guilty, Death sentence. Aged 19yrs. This sentence was commuted to life transportation, to Australia. This Theodore CONSTANTINE is the same person listed under Charles Henry Theodore CONSTANTINE who was transported to Van Diemen's Land per the 'Layton' 1827. (http://www.convictrecords.com.au/convicts/constantine/theodore/112958). According to the 1827 records he had been originally transported to NSW, as details per this page, but given a Free Pardon by the Governor of NSW in 1825. Father & mother are stated to lived in Paris. A teacher of Italian. Tried again, in Australia, for stealing money. 7yr transportation sentence 21 Mar 1827 and sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per 'Layton'. - see that record for further details.

THEODORE CONSTANTINE aged 19 was indicted for stealing, on the 22nd of September 1822 , at St. George's, Hanover-square, one watch, value 5 l.; one chain, value 2 l., and four rings, value 20 s., the goods of William Jarrin , in his dwelling-house.
