Fanny CONWAY was convicted at Galway on 24 June 1850 for stealing a lamb. Never convicted before. Gaol Report: good. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Blackfriar' in 1851. Aged 40yrs; stated to be a single woman; country servant; 5'3"; Roman Catholic. Native Place - Co. Galway, Ireland. Brother: Thomas - a soldier Brother: James - at native place Assigned to work services in the Colony. 12 Dec 1852: Married Michael Walsh, aged 28, labourer, bachelor. Church of St. Joseph, Hobart. (Registration of Fanny is under name "Connaway".) Ref. 37/1/11 no. 749. 29 Nov 1853: Ticket of Leave approved. 11 Aug 1853: Misconduct. 3mths hard labour at the Female House of Correction. 14 Aug 1855: Conditional Pardon granted. 17 July 1857: Certificate of Freedom issued, at Launceston. 22 Oct 1857: Free passage approved for her daughter to be sent to Colony.
