Tried at the Old Bailey, 6 April 1826 716. CHRISTOPHER COOK was indicted for stealing, on the 6th of March , 1 jacket, value 10s. ; the goods of William Smith. WILLIAM SMITH. This jacket is my property - it had been hanging in the passage of my house at Blackwall - I had seen it safe about half an hour before I heard it was gone. HENRY HUNT . I saw the prisoner, on the 6th of March, go into Mr. Smith's house with some matches, he asked if they would buy any - he came out, looked round the door and went in again three times - he then went in and came out with a bundle - I was in a house opposite - I ran out and called Mr. Smith, and asked if he had lost any thing - he said "Yes, my jacket;" I ran after the prisoner and he was taken - I had not lost sight of him - he threw the jacket on the ground. GUILTY. Aged 13. Transported for Seven Years. -------------------------------------------------------------- The National Archives. Hulk Records. HO-9-2_4 Hulks at Chatham.
