Petition of George Cooke, a prisoner for seven years, sheweth, That your Petitioner came to this colony in the month of April , one thousand eight hundred and eighteen by the ship Batavia. That on Your Excellency’s Recommendation, your Petitioner was appointed by Mr Wentworth and assistant in His Majesty’s General Hospital, Parramatta, since which, your Petitioner has held a medical situation under Lieutenant King on Board the Cutter Mermaid, for nearly eighteen months; and is now returned, after an application from Mr West, to fulfil his former situation as assistant in H M Gen. Hospital, Parramatta. Your Petitioner now humbly hopes that your Excellency will be pleased to grant him a mitigation of sentence or such other indulgence as your Excellency may think his conduct and character has merited, during his residence in the colony, and as in duty bound, your humble petitioner will ever pray During the 17 months that the Petitioner has served under me he has conducted himself most fully to my satisfaction & in attending upon the sick, he has evinced a zeal beyond my expectations, and is very deserving of such favor as Your Excellency may think right to confer upon him. ….

Early on Saturday morning, were sent under a strong guard, from his Majesty’s gaol at Maidstone, and put board the Hulks Sheerness, for transportation, the following convicts, viz. John Robinson McVeagh, Stephen Bushell, John Salvage, Richard Armstrong, George Cooke, Daniel Church, Daniel Hollands, John Mills, James Davis, George Coultrip, John Willis, John Gore and Charles Harding.
