The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Originally embarked with 221 convicts, 5 Died at sea, 1 was Relanded. 11 sick on shore, The convicts were described as 220 such wretchedly debilitated creatures ... Family connections for Josiah Emery (Cooper) are: COOPER Josiah Emery (Cooper) was a wheelwright who was tried at Leicester Assizes, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 5 1792 after a voyage of 4+months on Fleet ship ROYAL ADMIRALalso; he was 5.73' tall. He enlisted in NSW Corps on 14 5 1794 in Sydney as a private. In 1798 he was detached to (Abbott)s company, with which he was sent to Norfolk Island in 1801. In 1804 he was returned with (Abbott)s company to Parramatta, followed by service at Hawkesbury from 1808. In 1809 he was detached to 1Company. He married Sarah (Thomas) on 19 3 1810 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was transferred to 73rd Regiment on 24 4 1810. He was a discharged veteran when he died on 3 1 1826 age60 at Castlereagh & was buried at Christ Church Castlereagh.
