On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. Occupation, Unstated. Tried: Glasgow, 17 Sep 1822, Transportation - 14 years. Per Ship: Mary, 03 June 1823, New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land. --------------------------------------------------------------- GLASGOW ASSIZES. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Thomas Brown, Catherine Coot, James Holmes, alias Letters, and Mary Jarvis, alias Nimmo, alias Ruth Lamb, alias the Badger, were found guilty of several acts of theft, and Holmes and Mary Jarvis of being reputed thieves. Lord Meadowbank addressed them in nearly the following words—You have all of you been convicted of the various crimes of theft, aggravated by being habit and repute common thieves. Catherine Coote the only one who has made a candid confession of her guilt- ... and the sentence the law is that all of you be transported for fourteen years. ... Morning Advertiser 25 Sep 1822.
