Huntingdon. The only prisoners at present committed for trial at our Sessions, on Tuesday next, are James Cope, from St. Neots for stealing wearing appareL from Mr. Nottingham.  Huntingdon, Bedford a& Peterborough Gazette, 31 March 1838. Huntingdon. JAMES COPE, against whom the Grand Jury retained their indictments, was arraigned upon two, one for stealing of trowsers, and the other for stealing sacks, and was found guilty upon both.—A scene, extraordinary and unusual in a court of Justice, then followed.—Mr. Standly, addressing the chairman, desired that the prisoner might be tried upon the  third indictment for stealing a waistcoat. ... Huntingdon, Bedford & Peterborough Gazette, 7 April 1838. James Cope (26) pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a shirt, the property of James Swale, of Eynesbury.—He having been convicted three times before in this county, and once recently in Bedford, the Chairman sentenced him to 7 years' transportation.  Cambridge General Advertiser, 15 April 1840.
