Housemaid; can read & write; 5'1 3/4"; fair complexion, with freckles; small oval head; dk brown hair; blue eyes. single. Family: father - Joseph Copley (Cobley)coalminer; mother - Harriet Hodges; Sisters - Mary, Sophia, Anne, Caroline; brothers - Thomas & Thomas (2nd). Clear Conduct Record in colony. 1835 Muster: assigned to Mr. Robertson. 1841: Ticket of Leave 30/03/1842: Free by servitude 1843: Certificate of Freedom Application for permission to marry 26/11/1836. Married Lazarus Howlett (convict per 'Woodford', now free). Howlett children: Charles, John, Joseph, Caroline, Henry, Mary Ann.
Sarah was transported with her sister Mary (22)after first completing one weeks incarceration. Sarah's gravestone in Richmond Tasmania states she was 88 at time of death in 1901, this would mean she was born in 1813. But in the 1835 England and Wales Criminal Registry she is listed as being 17 meaning she was born in 1818. I believe she lied about her age in the hope of being granted some clemency. It didn't work. Many family trees on Ancestry have put her birth year as 1815.
