When Patrick Corkery applied to have his family sent out from Ireland in 1848 his wife was listed as"Dead". On 13th November, 1850 in St. Francis Church Melbourne Patrick Corkery married Catherine Molgrew, they were to have 10 children, Patrick born 1850 Bendigo Vic., Mary born 1853, Victoria, John born 1856 Gundagai N.S.W., Margaret born 1859 Gundaroo N.S.W., Peter born 1861 Tipperary Fully near Young N.S.W., Catherine born 1862 Young N.S.W., William born 1870 Burrowa N.S.W., James born 1872 Burrowa N.S.W., 1 male and 1 female deceased. Patrick Corkery died 2/10/1874 Burrowa River N.S.W.

Patrick CORKERRY (or CORKERY) was convicted at Kerry, Ireland on 9 March 1842 for Larceny - stealing a coat and pr of shoes. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship "Isabella Watson" 1842. Ship surgeon's report: "very good". Aged 39 yrs; farm labourer; Roman Catholic Native place of birth: Co. Cork, Ireland Married man - wife Ellen and 4 children. Wife Ellen also transported to VDL, with 1 child accompanying her. (link to her record https://convictrecords.com.au/convicts/corkery/ellen/135563) Records of the child who came with mother have not been located and does not appear to have been admitted to Queens Orphanage - unless under mother's maiden name, which is not known. Children (as recorded on convict indent): Jeremiah, John, Patrick, Mary, Johanna & Peg. (Mothers record states only 4 children but 2 could have been deceased or the youngest not counted?) Father: Jeremiah (ref. convict indent record) Mother: Ellen 3 Brothers: 4 Sisters: Colony of VDL: 2 yrs Probation Period. 1st Station Gang - Jericho, VDL. 9 June 1846: Ticket of Leave granted. 9 March 1849: Free Certificate issued. Remarks in documentation: 1847 - Application to bring out family from Ireland. (ref. GO33/1/66 pg 907) 1850: Patrick CORKERY moved to live in Victoria, Australia. It is understood he then moved to New South Wales where he remarried. (No details verified as to what happened to wife Ellen.) N.B. There are several other CORKERY families living in the Colony at that time, also variations in spelling of surname.
