Date of death: 25 December 1868 - This second record of his death (no place or cause of death listed) has been located in the New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891; Police Convict Branch: Letters to Officials, 1862-1892, in the "Nominal return of convicts who have died in the Colony of NSW" Jan-Dec 1868.
1837, 8 April: Cornelius CRONAN, per Prince Regent, Catholic, labourer, was sent from Sydney jail to Norfolk Island on this day (see New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930; Entrance and Description Book, Sydney 1831-1847). 1844, 20 January: At Norfolk Island – Cornelius CRONAN, per Prince Regent, convicted in the Quarter Sessions, Bathurst, on 28 November 1836, and sentenced to life (commuted to 15 years) for cattle stealing, is on a list of prisoners who are deemed “Invalids and Ineffective” and recommended for removal to Sydney. He arrived on Norfolk Island on 22 April 1837, and is described as “nearly blind and much debilitated” (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891; Norfolk Island: Returns of Convicts to NSW, 1844-1845).
1837: From the New South Wales Government Gazette, Wed 4 Jan 1837 [Issue No.256], p19, Government Gazette Notices… “TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION, At Bathurst, on WEDNESDAY, the 5th January, 1837, ABOUT 116 head of Cattle 10 Working Bullocks 72 Sheep 5 Horses 2 Drays with Harness, and sundry other Effects, late belonging to Cornelius Cronan, John McKeon, Samuel Taylor, —— Fox, —— Hedges, —— Cross, and James Evans, and forfeited to the Crown by their respective convictions. Particulars may be known on application at the Police Office, Bathurst; or, at the Crown Solicitor's Office, Sydney. Sydney, 26th December, 1836.”
1837 Convict Muster: Cornelius CRONAN per Prince Regent, age 43, in the service of the Government at Bathurst; has a Ticket of Leave [cannot find any other official record that confirms this entry about a ToL; clearly the Muster data was gathered in 1836] (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849; New South Wales, General muster A-C 1837). 1837, 2 January: Cornelius CRONAN, bond, native place Cork, labourer, was admitted to Sydney Jail from Bathurst, sentenced to transportation for life. He was transported to the Phoenix Hulk on 3 January (see New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930; Entrance and Description Book Sydney 1834-1838).
1836, 5 December: From the Sydney Herald, p2: “BATHURST. “QUARTER SESSIONS. “The sittings of this court commenced on Monday, 28th November, before a full Bench… with the usual Civil and Military Juries. “The Calendar presented a list of 34 prisoners for trial, of which there were none presenting the least degree of novelty or interest. The usual number of assault and petty larceny cases were visited with proportioned periods of servitude in irons on the public works of the colony and for the crime of cattle stealing five prisoners received sentence of transportation for life.” Note: One of those prisoners was Cornelius CRONAN. 1836, 30 December: Cornelius CRONAN was admitted to Parramatta Gaol from Penrith; sentenced to transportation for life; sent to the Phoenix Hulk on 2 January 1837 (see New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930; Entrance Book Parramatta 1836-1838).
1821: Cornelius CROWAN, 22, tried August 1820 at Cork City, convicted for burglary and robbery and sentenced to life (see New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1821 Prince Regent II). 1821: Cornelius COONAN per Prince Regent 1821, tried at Cork on 18 August 1820 and sentenced to life, is listed as in the service of Mr Cox (see New South Wales, Australia, Settler and Convict Lists, 1787-1834; New South Wales, Male A-J 1821).
