Also, same day, from Cork, whence she sailed May 25th, the ship Andromeda, 401 tons, Benjamin Gales master, with 173 female prisoners; Henry Kelsawl, Esq., Surgeon-superintendant. Passengers — Fourteen free females, viz. Mary Manning, Martha Morron, Margaret Mahon, Margaret Sheedy, Mary Ann Nixon alias Welsh, Catherine Kiernan, Mary Cassock, Catherine Stanton, Johanna Neville, Mary Lyons alias Hynes, Maria Moran, Catherine O'Donnel, Margaret Kennedy, and Mary Sullivan, and twenty-six children; also twenty-three children belonging to the prisoners. Bridget Costello was 53 years old on arrival -she was 5'1" tall, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes.




UK, Royal Navy Medical Journals, 1817-1856 Andromeda 1834 23 Apr - 1834 07 Oct. Ascites A feeble old woman was admitted to the hospital on 9 August with skin a little above the normal temperature and a pulse of 80 weak tongue and gums covered with brown fur and constipated countenance anxious eyes rolling about every appearance of fear and despair. gave purgative 10 August very little effect and appearance same as yesterday 11 August Blister has relieved the head bowels open and she is consistently better. 12 August improving skin better pulse 76 tongue still coated complains of thirst. Without appetite. 13 August much improved in every aspect. Tongue better bowels open and she is in good spirits. From this time until 7 September she appeared to be improving slowly. Taking sulphate of ......, port wine and preserved soup. But today 7 sept she relasped into the same condition, nearly, as the first day she was admitted with febrile symptoms and great frustration of strength. 9 Sept. Great swelling of the belly evidently fluid. Gave cathartic (purgative) 14 Sept Swelling has rapidly increased. The patient is very exhausted and appears to be sinking 17 Sept 9.30 she expired
