William COSTELLO was convicted at Tipperary, Ireland on 23 Jan 1847 for stealing a bag of wheat. Previous offences, had been in Spike Islnd Prison. Character stated to be bad. 7 yr transportation sentence. Gaol Report: "Good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Hyderabad' arriving 13 Dec 1850. Ship Surgeon's Report: "Good". Aged 22yrs; single; 5'4 3/4"; Roman Catholic; fair complexion; dark brown hair; grey eyes. Native place of birth: Co. Galway, Ireland.
