1834, 9 June: He was accused of stealing 9 bushels of wheat from William Lyttleton Esq, to whom he was indentured. He was committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions in Launceston on 7 July. 1834, 7 July: Convicted and sentenced to 14 years on the chain gang. 1842, 18 November: Granted a Ticket of Leave. 1847, 8 October: Conditional Pardon approved (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-1$init=CON34-1-1P644).

1825, 30 August: George Costin, 19, convicted for arson, was received aboard the Justitia at Woolwich. He was sent from there on 18 November 1825 for transportation (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1826: On arrival in VDL, George Costin, a farmer's boy from Felversham, was listed as 19 years old (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-1$init=CON34-1-1P644).

The following capital convicts were removed on Tuesday morning last the county gaol Bedford last the county gaol Bedford to the Justitia hulk. at Woolwich, pursuant to their respective sentences ;—George Costin, Francis Hewlett, Benjamin Parsons, Thomas Tailor, William Pateman, Wm. Hawkins, Henry Walters, Wm. Freeman, and Henry Bean; severally transported for and during the term of their natural lives. Windsor and Eton Express, 3 Sept 1825.
