WAS THOUGHT TO BE A WHITEBOY WHICH WAS AN AGRARIAN BASED REBELLION IN CO CORK IN THE 1820's He was sentenced along with 5 others and was shipped to Australia from Cork through Rio to Sydney Transported for life abourd the ship Mangles in 1822 Lived in the Monaro area of NSW and is the person the Cotter River in the ACT is named after.

Garrett Cotter was sentenced to Life for firing on English Troops. He was 20 years old on arrival. 1832: TOL 10/4/1847: CP 1841: Married Ann Russell in Maneroo NSW. They had 9 children. 1872: Listed as a Squatter in Michelago NSW. He was a pioneer in the district and Cotter dam was named after him, also Cotter Rliver and Cotter Flats. Garrett died aged 84 in Michelago.
