Jeremiah Cotter was indicted for stealing two sheep, on the 10th July, at Glengariffe, the property of. Mortogh Sullivan. A young boy, an Irish witness, discovered the prisoner with the two sheep in brake, and afterwards saw him drive them. The prisoner confessed. They were the property of the prosecutor. Guilty. Cork Constitution, 3 April 1828.




The Australian Indentures state that Jeremiah Cotter was 21 years old. He was a native of County Cork; religion Catholic; status: single and a farm labourer. He was convicted of sheep stealing on 31 March 1828 and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 4 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy: hair dark brown and eyes brown. Transport number 106. He was assigned to Mr Charles Purcell. Received his ticket of leave in 1833 (number 33/1139) and Certificate of Freedom in 1842 (number 42/529).
