26/2/1831 Oxford University and City Herald Oxfordshire, England: Ed. Townsend, Wm. Austin, and Robt. Cotton, charged with breaking a thrashing machine at Neithrop, the property of Joseph Paine. The said Robert Cotton stands further charged with breaking a thrashing machine, the property of John Wilson, of Boddicott. Robert Cotton was listed as 24 years old on arrival in VDL - he was born at Banbury, Oxfordshire. Occupation: Canal boat builder. Father: Thomas Cotton, a boat builder, New York, America. Brothers: Thomas Cotton in London, a boat builder, Edward Mather and Clark Mather, Half Brothers. Robert was literate, single, protestant, 5'5½" tall, dark complexion, black hair and whiskers, brown eyes, scar on left eyebrow. 1832-33 Musters: Public Works 14/10/1835: TOL 3/2/1836: Free Pardon. 1/3/1838: Certificate of Freedom issued as per The Cornwall Chronicle, Launceston 10/3/1838.
