Tried and convicted at the Manchester Quarter Sessions on 1st July 1818 for stealing, with force of arms, 120 pieces of copper coin value 8s. and 4d., sentenced to transportation for 7 years. he was confined in the Gaol at Lancaster Castle on 15th August 1818 until December when he was sent to his transportation vessel. Left England on 27th January 1819. Ship:- the 'Baring' sailed with 300 male convicts on board of which 5 died during the voyage. Arrived on 26th June 1819. On 28th July 1825 he was issued with his Ticket of Leave. Married Hannah Martin (daughter of convict John Martin, 'Alexander' 1788 & his wife Mary) on 10th May 1830 at Field of Mars, Sydney, they had 14 children between 1831-1857. After 1857 they moved to Wattle Flat near Sofala, Central Tablelands of New South Wales, as gold has been discovered in the area and many moved there to try their luck at prospecting, Peter died there on 22nd August 1877, his wife, Hannah, had also died there in 1871. The jurors of our lord the King, upon their oath, present that, William Flinn, late of the township of Manchester on the county of Lancashire, labourer, Peter Coups, late of the same place, labourer, and Samuel Shone, late of the same place, labourer, on the twenty fifth day of April in the fifty eighth year of the reign of our sovereign lord George the third, by the grace of God of the United Kingdom and Ireland. King. Defender of the Faith. at Manchester in the county aforesaid. Forty pieces of current copper coin of this realm called pennies of the value of three shillings and four pence. Forty pieces of current copper coin of this realm called halfpennies of the calue of one shilling and eight pence and forty pieces of copper of the value of three shillings and four pence of the goods and chattels of Morgan Edwards. Then and there found and being by force of arms, feloniously did steal, take and carry away against the peace of our said lord the King his crown and dignity. Flinn Guilty Coups and Shone tried and both Guilty. TRANSPORTED 7 years each.

Peter Coups, along with William Flinn, and Samuel Shone (all on board the Baring) stole forty pieces of copper coin, (pennies) of the value of three shillings and four pence. Forty pieces of halfpennies of the value of one shilling and eight pence and forty pieces of copper of the value of three shilling and four pence, the goods and chattels of Morgan Edwards. 28/7/1825: COF 10/5/1830: Married Hannah Martin the daughter of John Martin (Alexander 1788) and Mary, daughter of John Randall (Alexander 1788). They had 14 children. Hannah died on 4 December 1871. C 1857 Peter moved to Wattle Flat near Sofala. 1860: Was a sawyer.
