Owen COURTENAY was convicted at Cork, Ireland on 17 Aug 1840 for manslaughter - he struck Jeremiah ... on the head and he died a day later, but I did not intend to kill him. His brother Daniel escaped. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'British Sovereign' arriving there 17 March 1841. Married man, wife Ellen at Kerry/Derry. 3 children Aged 40 yrs; a labourer; 5'4 1/2" height; dark complexion; dk brown hair; grey eyes. Native place of birth: Co. of Derry Colony of VDL: No details recorded on his Conduct Sheet, apart from offence and arrival details.
