James COURTNEY was convicted at Dublin, Ireland 1840 for stealing a coat. Previous convictions. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to NSW, Australia per the ship 'King William' 1840. Aged 43 yrs; single man; labourer; Roman Catholic. Native place of birth: Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Aunt: Mary FIELDS, already transported. Ticket of Leave issued, Goulbourn district, NSW. 8 May 1847: Certificate of Freedom issued.
