Note: Penelope Cowell still lived in Waddesdon in 1861. On the Census she was described as a widow and lace maker, aged 51 (see 1861 England Census; Buckinghamshire, Waddesdon District 8).

1832: On arrival in VDL, he was listed as 33, married, a ploughman and farm labourer. He was assigned to Mr McLeod (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON27-1-5$init=CON27-1-5). 1835, 20 November: An extra year was added to his original sentence for absconding. 1841, 19 August: Eli Cowell, per KS Forbes, and Jessie Crayton [Jannet Creichton], free, were granted permission to marry (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON52-1-2p015). 1842, 28 July: Eli was granted a Conditional Pardon. 1842, 19 September: MARRIAGE - the marriage record clearly states that he was a single man. By this time he was listed as free, aged 32. Jannet Creighton was also single and 31 years old. They were married at St John's Church, Launceston (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-2p353j2k). 1847, 10 May: Eli Cowell received his Certificate of Freedom (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p152).

1831, 18 October: Convicted at Aylesbury for stealing a fork. He had a previous conviction for stealing a smock dress (6 months) and one for vagrancy (1 month). A charge for stealing a lamb was dismissed. He was married to Penelope who was at this native place of Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-7$init=CON31-1-7p152). 1831, 15 November: Received aboard the prison hulk Justitia at Woolwich, Eli Cowell aged 22. Sent from there for transportation on 11 February 1832 (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
