Dublin Morning Register 14 March 1827: 'LONGFORD ASSIZES ...Bryan Ruein (sic) and James Cox were tried under the Whiteboy Act, for administering an unlawful oath, the purport of which was, to be ready to take up fire arms. They were sentenced to transportation for life.' 1827 Convict indent: James Cox, age 23 years, born: Longford, Farmer's man & shepherd, single, can read and write, height 5ft 5.75in, ruddy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, tattoo of crucifix on right lower arm.  1828 census: Australian Agricultural Company, District: Port Stephens NSW 1836 Ticket of Leave, 36/0272 1837 General Return of Convicts: Port Stephens 1843 Conditional Pardon 43/157 1845 Absolute Pardon Death 30 October 1891 at Main Creek near Dungog, New South Wales. Death certificate: 90 years old, farmer, cause of death "senile garasmus", born Longford Ireland, parents Michael Cox farmer and Sarah Rogers. Burial 31 October 1891 "Hanley's Flat Cemetery" (Dungog Cemetery) RC. Children Sarah 46, Jane 45, Susannah 44, Mary Ann 42, James 40, Thomas 38, Sophia 37, John 34, Catherine 31, Elizabeth 29, Samuel Thomas 27, Robert Michael 23, Agnes 21.




Married Ann McKeown/McKeon in 1844. Settled on farm at Main Creek, Dungog, NSW. Had 13 children, viz; Jane (1846-Nov.1941), Sarah (1849-12/11/1880), James (1850-06/1915), Thomas (1853-1853), Sophia (1854-24/09/1929), William J (1858-1858?), Catherine (1859-6/12/1941), Isabella (1861 - ?), Elizabeth (1862-?), Rosalind Beatrice (1863-1871), Samuel Thomas (1864-1943), Robert Michael (19/05/1868 - 20/05/1953) Agnes (1869 - ?). Some names here may be slightly wrong.
