Recorders Court Yesterday Sir Jonas Greene, Recorder, ... sat at the Sessions House, street, for the trial of prisoners. Michael Coyne, for feloniously stealing 35£. 5s. 3d. in gold, the property of Eliza M‘Donald; the particulars of this robbery appeared in our Police report yesterday; it farther appeared from the testimony of the prosecutrix, that the prisoner, who travelled up to town with her from Carlow, upon their arrival inveigled her to t a lodging-house, where they slept together, and taking advantage of her weakness, possessed himself her money, and swore by the H—y g if she made any noise he would cut her throat, (here the Court expressed much indignation); she also stated that her husband was a tailor, and that she came to town a to purchase cast clothes. The prisoner was found guilty, and sentenced to be transported for seven years. Saunders News-Letter, 15 Sep 1821.
