Aris's Birmingham Gazette Warwickshire, England 8 Aug 1831 John Crane, Thomas Woolaston, and John Betts were charged with stealing at Birmingham on the 6th of July last, fourteen yards of woollen cloth, value £10. and other articles of wearing apparel, belonging to John Jones. The shop of the prosecutor, who is a tailor and draper, was found to be broken open on the above night ; the goods were missed ; and the prisoner Crane with the others were met by Hill a watchjan, who apprehended the formjer with a bundle containing some of the goods. Tfhe two others were afterwards taken into custody. Crane was found guilty, and the jury acquitted the other prisoners. Judgement of death was recorded against him. Northampton Mercury Northamptonshire, England 13 Aug 1831 John Crane, for stealing yards of woollen cloth, value and other articles of wearing apparel, the property John Jones. John Crane was listed as 26 years old on arrival. Full Name: John Benjamin Crane. Native Place: Shropshire. Occupation: Fruiterer. John could read, was Protestant, single, 5'4½" tall, ruddy and freckled complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar on right cheek, scar outer corner of right eyebrow, blue ring on left middle finger. Son of Richard F Crane and Mary A (Fisher) Crane Born Birmingham, Stropshire. 13/11/1840: TOL Yass 17/2/1846: TOL Passport - Tumut Bench - Allowed to remain at the Murrumbidgee, as a Wheel-wright at Gundagai. 1846: Recommended for a CP 7/12/1846: Permission to marry Mary Futter - John was 34 and had a TOL - Mary was born in the colony and free. (Mary died 1910). 15/1/1847: Married Mary Fuller/Futter at the C of E, Gundagai. 15-20 children. 30/7/1847: CP. 19/7/1895: John Crane died at Gundagai, NSW. 25/7/1895 Wagga Wagga Advertiser, NSW: Miscellaneous Items. A Gundagai telegram of Monday says: —The oldest inhabitant of the district, Mr. John Crane, of Big Ben Creek, South Gundagai, died on Saturday. The late Mr. Crane settled on the Murrumbidgee River in 1831. He was highly respected, and was the father of 20 children, 11 of whom survive him. His relations in the district are said to number over 200. The funeral took place yesterday, and was a very large one.
