Pierce Jeremiah Creagh was baptised in Dublin in 1799 (day and month not known), so was a little older than his age in convict records that indicate a c. 1802 birth (RC St. Andrews Dublin parish records). He later adopted the middle name of John in place of Jeremiah (e.g., 1849 parish death record). The spelling of his first name in records is either Pierce or Pearce. After being approved for a conditional pardon on 1 July 1842 (formalised in August 1843), Pierce married widow Eliza Bardo (born Evans) on 7 July 1842 (parish marriage record) and established a successful and well-known grocery business in Pitt Street, Sydney (numerous newspaper articles and advertisements). He died on the 19 August 1849 and his was one of the early burials at the Camperdown Cemetery in Sydney.
