Ann CROFTS was convicted at West Riding, York, England on 9 July 1834 for larceny - stealing from her Master. One previous offence. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'New Grove' arriving 27 March 1835. Single woman; aged 21 yrs; farm servant; 5'5 3/4" height; fresh complexion; black hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Rathbone. Work service in the Colony of VDL. 4 Oct 1838: Ticket of Leave granted. 31 Jan 1839: Convicted of larceny - sentence extended by 2 yrs and to be sent to the Female Factory, Launceston for 3 mths. 1843: Free Certificate, no. 558 issued. 3 May 1839: Application for permission to marry - Ann CROFTS per New Grove to Robert Callon (free). Ref. 52/1/1/ pg 30) 15 May 1840: Application for permission to marry - Ann CROFTS per New Grove to Richard MESSENGER (free). ref. 52/1/1 pg 121. 6 July 1840: Marriage, at St. John's Church, Launceston - Ann CROFT, aged 26yrs, convict to Richard MESSENGER, aged 33yrs, free, sawyer, single man.
