Family connections for Elizabeth/Betty (Crooke/s) are: Replacing my contribution of 2023. CROOKE/S A confusion has existed between the two convicts & Elizabeth (Clarke) & Elizabeth (Crooke/s) from the INDISPENSIBLE Elizabeth/Betty (Crooke/s) was born sometime between 1753-63. She was tried with her brother John (no record of him), a labourer, for stealing flour etc of John (Wormald) of Kelbrook in April 1795 & again for receiving flour at York Assizes in August 1795, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 4 1796 after a journey of 6months on INDISPENSABLE. She had a first relationship with Thomas (Farr) alias Thomas (Field his second relationship) & produced a child. An Elizabeth (Clark-she changed her name?) is recorded on Norfolk Island as off stores in February 1805.>>> [Some details are taken from this Website] Thomas (Farr) alias Thomas (Field) was tried at York Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7/28 8 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship WILLIAM AND ANN. He had a first relationship with Catherine (Keenan) his first relationship). He was moved to Norfolk Island arriving on 21 5 1796. He enlisted in NSW Corps as Thomas (Farr) in Sydney on 24 7 1798 as a private, but was discharged on 31 7 1798. He produced 2known children in his lifetime. [Some details are taken from this Website] .. >>>Elizabeth/Betty Mathilda (Crooke/s) married secondly Isaac (Tar/r his second marriage) on 10 4 1797 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. In 1822 she petitioned the Governor for food assistance for her quadriplegic husband. In 1828 she is recorded as Free by Servitude & living with daughter Elizabeth (Monks)s family. She died on 23 2 1829 age76? (therefore born about 1762) at Parramatta mother of perhaps 2children & was buried, as (Betty (Torr), at St Johns CofE Parramatta. Isaac (Tar/r) was born about 1862. He arrived in NSW as a private marine of 26th Portsmouth company on 26 1 1788 on First Fleet ship HMS SIRIUS. [Noted an Isaac (Farr) is recorded as discharged as a marine in Sydney in October 1791 & sailed to Norfolk Island in January 1792; also as a tailor on Norfolk Island in 1794.] He was sent to Norfolk Island. He had a first relationship with Mary (Watkins) with whom he returned to Sydney on DAEDALUS in 1794. He lived at a farm which he named 'Watkins Farm'. He became quadriplegic about 1814. He was a limeburner at Field of Mars in 1819 employing his son in law William (Monks). He died on 17 6 1828 age66 at Parramatta father of 1known child & was buried, as Isac (Farr) former marine at St Johns CofE Parramatta.] Mary (Watkins) was born about 1766. She was tried for a robbery at Cowbridge Glamorgan Wales on 25 4 1786, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 21 1 1788 after a voyage of 8months on First Fleet ship FRIENDSHIP. She was sent to Norfolk Island. She returned to Sydney with her partner in 1794 on DAEDALUS; she died on DAEDALUS or shortly after age about28 & was buried at St Johns CofE Parramatta. Elizabeth/Betty Mathilda (Crooke/s) & Isaac (Tar/r) produced 1child: 1.Elizabeth Matilda (Tar/r) was born on 7/17 1 1799 & baptised on 3 2 1799 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She married William (Monks) on 4 5 1818 with permission at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced at least 5children. Her mother was living with her in 1828. She died in 1836 age about37. ..William (Monk/s) was born about 1797. He was tried for breaking & entering house of Edward (Clack) of Stoken church & stealing articles at Oxford Assizes, sentenced apparantly to death reprieved to Life, held on hulks at Portsmouth Hampshire & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 10 1813 after a voyage of 5months on EARL SPENCER; he was forwarded to Rev Samuel (Marsden) at Parramatta for distribution. He was a limeburner at Field of Mars in 1818 & 1819 working for his father in law Isaac (Tar). He may have ben issued his Ticket of Leave in 1819. He was Free by Servitude by 1821. On 25 7 1822 he was appointed as constable at Parramatta until he resigned on 6 8 1823. Hull Advertiser and Exchange Gazette Yorkshire, England 18 Apr 1795: John Crook, labourer, and Eliza.Crook, single woman, charged with breaking into the corn-mill of John Wormald, of Kelbrook, and stealing a quantity of wheat flour, &c. Hull Advertiser and Exchange Gazette Yorkshire, England 1 Aug 1795 Elizabeth Crooke, otherwise Betty Crooke, for receiving stolen goods, knowing the same to be stolen, to be transported for 14 years. Birth dates for Elizabeth: 1753, 1754, 1759, 1762 and 1763. Isaac Tar of the parish of Parramatta and Elizabeth Crook were married in this church by banns this 10th day of April 1797 be me Samuel Marsden assistant chaplain Isaac Tar signed the register and Elizabeth Crook made her X mark in the presence of William Chapman who signed the register and Maria Kersley who made her X mark. Isaac Tarr was a Private Marine 26th (Portsmouth) Company who arrived in NSW aboard the ship Sirius with the First Fleet on 26 Jan 1788. The Humble Petition of Elizabeth Tarr Most Deutifully [sic] Sets Forth That Your Excellency's Petitioner is an aged ... woman in the 69th year of age, came in the Indispensible Captain Wilkinson (Twenty Eight Years ago), is the wife of Isaac Tarr (who came a Marine in the Seris [sic] with Governor Phillips in the First Fleet to this Colony, a Man who has long been in a deplorable state having for eight years last past lossed the use of his limbs and being unable to feed or in any way to assist himself and in need of attendance both day and night, compells [sic] petitioner at this far advanced period of her life humbly to supplicate the benevolency of Your Excellency for the Indulgence of Petitioner to be placed upon the stores in Parramatta as the wife of a Soldier, long in the service of the Crown and Your Excellency's Petitioner Will Most Dutifully Pray etc etc etc Elizabeth Tarr. 1828 Census: Elizabeth Tarr, 65, free by servitude, Indefatigable, 1800, 7 years, resides with daughter, (Elizabeth Monks, married to William Monks (Earl Spencer 1816). 23/2/1829: (Burial date) Betty Tarr of Parramatta, buried 23/2/1829, aged 74, at St. John's, Parramatta.

Elizabeth Crook married Isaac Tarr at St John's C of E Parramatta 10 April 1797. Together they had one daughter Elizabeth Matilda Tarr.
