Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Robert Cross married Jane Jackson 11 Aug 1806 at Humbleton, Yorkshire. They had three children: William Henry Cross 1807–1863 Jane Cross 1809–1893 Ralph Jackson Cross 1810–1888 Robert Cross was convicted of burglary in Yorkshire Assizes on 31 July 1813 and was sentenced to death by hanging. His sentence was commuted to transportation for life and he was transported on the Surry which arrived at Sydney on 28 July 1814. Robert's wife Jane, with their three children, travelled aboard the Broxbornebury which left England and arrived at Sydney on the same dates as her husband's ship. Jane commenced a defacto relationship with fellow passenger John Horsley. Jane and John Horsley had 8 children between 1816 and 1830. The convict indent has a description of Robert Cross: age 28, 5 foot 8 3/4 inches tall, 'dark pale' complexion, dark brown hair, dark hazel eyes. It recorded his occupation as labourer. 'Strong made' was added to his description in his Conditional Pardon. We know from the 1814 muster that he was assigned to Sir John Jamieson. From 1816 - 1818 he was assigned to William Cox. On 31 July 1818 he received a Conditional Pardon. The 1822 Muster has him residing as a tenant in the Windsor district with 8 acres of land, all cleared with 7.5 acres under Maize, 0.25 acres of potatoes and 0.25 acres as an orchard, with two hogs and 15 bushells of maize as well. 1828 Census: Robert and his two sons William (age 22) and Ralph (age 20) at Wallis Plains near Maitland, 20 acres of land all cultivated and 14 head of horned cattle. His housekeeper was Phillis Gordon and her son John (born 1819, father John Bond), who was adopted by Robert. Phillis died in 1834. 15 May 1833 Maitland, New South Wales: he applied to marry Catherine Thompson (29, convict Forth (2) 7 yrs single). "stated a widower", allowed on 24 May. 11 July 1833 Marriage to Catherine Thompson Hexham, New South Wales. 7 Sep 1843 Singleton, New South Wales: Application for permission to marry Mary White (35, Hy Wellesley (2) 7 yrs T of L), minister D Cameron, Singleton. It is refused on 7 Sept as "Cross must give proof of his being a widower" Marriage to Mary Jane Adamson: 9 March 1846 Whittingham near Singleton. They had children: Robert Adamson Cross 1843– Sarah Elizabeth Cross 1845– Henry Cross 1850–1850 Death 20 September 1864 West Maitland, New South Wales, Australia.
