DOB 1811, native place Waterford Co., Nurse girl. Permission 27 Feb 1830 at Sydney. Elias Hibbs, came free, Free, age 19, and Honora Crotty, per City of Edingburgh, age 19, 7 years, bond. Rev. Richard Hill. -------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Leach, in Pitt-street, was broken into and robbed of property belonging to her, value six shillings, at the same time a lodger named Hannah Pritchard, lost dresses &c. to the amount of £1 8s. On Tuesday a woman named Honora Hibbs residing in the Quarry at the rear of the Flagstaff, was taken into custody by Sergeant Holy, and in the house was found the whole of the stolen property. She said when taken that she understood the affair had been compromised. Sydney Gazette, 27 Oct 1836. -------------------------------------------------- (Name mistakenly reported as Gibbs, not Hibbs, in the following report) Quarter Sessions, Friday 6th Jan 1837. Honora Gibbs. was indicted for stealing wearing apparel the property of Mr Pritchett. Jane McGuiggan stated that the prisoner was a shipmate. In the month of October. last she met, the prisoner in the Market-Place, who stated herself to be in the pains of labour and requested that she might be allowed to accompany her home, and that, a doctor might be sent for. Witness accompanied her to her house, where she remained 4 days; and was delivered of a child. She brought a bundle with her - among the things it contained were a watch and stand, which she said belonged to her husband. Mary Leech stated, that the prisoner came to her house, and enquired for Mrs Pritchett, who lodged there, but was not then at home. She requested she might be suffered to lie down f or a short time saying she was very ill. Witness accordingly told her to lie down on the sofa in the front room, while she went into the bed-room to go to sleep, and asked prisoner to awake her, if she slept long as she was a sound sleeper. On awaking, she found the prisoner had gone away - she missed some of Mrs. Prichett's property; and suspecting the prisoner, who was in the family way, had taken a longing to the articles, went to Mrs. M Guiggan's house; where she found the articles in question in the bed with prisoner and the baby – identified the property as belonging to Mrs. Pritchett. The prisoner handed in a long statement as her defence, trying to saddle another party with, the crime. The. Jury found her Guilty. Sentenced to be transported to a penal settlement for Five Years Sydney Monitor 11 Jan 1837. -------------------------------------------------- Moreton Bay Convict Record Honora Crotty convicted in this colony in the name of Honora Hibbs, per City of Edinburgh, tried at Waterford County 17 March 1828, of Grand Larceny, 7 years.
